Generally the removal or destruction of significant areas of forest cover has resulted in a degraded environment with reduced biodiversity. In many regions, massive deforestation is ongoing resulting to a numerous number of calamities such as flash flood, mud slide, land slide which resulted to human casualties and crops destruction.
Deforestation is also a substantial contributor to global warming. Why? The incineration or burning of forest plants in order to clear land such as in kainginreleases tons of CO2 which contributes to global warming. Deforestation also reduces the water content in the soil and groundwater as well as atmospheric moisture. It also reduces soil cohesion, so that erosion I always visible. Moreover forest support considerable biodiversity providing habitat for wildlife, forest also foster medicinal conservation, deforestation can destroy genetic variations (such as crop resistance) irretrievably.
Experts estimate that we are losing 137 plant, animal, insects species everyday due to rainforest deforestation, which equates to 50,000 species a year.
